Job Search Strategy Get 3 Offers
Job Search Strategy Get 3 Offers After doing a radio interview for WPR, I received an email from a listener containing some great job search advice. Her message reminded me of the success story I shared last week from one of my clients who was homing in on three job offers at once; this weekâs story is from someone who set that as her goal. Together with the Job Search Success Survey Results from two weeks ago, they make a complete package! Hereâs what Mary Beth, WPR listener, has to say (can you spot the empowering self-talk and empowering actions throughout?): Mary Beths Story One trick I used early in my career to motivate myself was to adopt the goal of getting three attractive job offers at once. This may sound preposterous or ludicrous, but here is why I found it worked for me and others with whom I shared the idea: The job hunt becomes a game Instead of feeling desperate like Oh man, I really need a job it was more like Can I possibly do this? It seems challenging, but I wont know if I dont try. Lets just see! It is more motivating to try to get three attractive job offers than to shoot for just one. It offers a position of strength at a time when you might feel vulnerable. Even when you are unemployed, you will feel much less dependent upon any one job opportunity if you are trying to find three attractive opportunities. This stretch goal encourages you to keep building momentum even when you have one or two good prospects, because you really dont know if they will pan out. You wont allow yourself to coast with a few good leads if you are pushing for three attractive offers. It allows you to objectively know your worth. If you can bring multiple job offers to life at the same time, you are in a much better bargaining position. Maybe one employer offers less money, but benefits you really value (flexible hours, more vacation time, an office vs. a cubicle). You can always use the terms of one offer to ask a prospective employer to enhance either the benefits package or the salary offering. Sometimes employers dont have flexibility, but often they do. It leads to bigger salary increases. Early in my career, I was able to increase my salary $20-25,000 from one job to another using this strategy. This was much better than 3-5% annual raises one usually receives while waiting for managers to decide to promote you. Is looking for three job offers more work than looking for a single job? Probably. Is it more fun? Absolutely. To be honest, I never was able to bring three offers to life simultaneously, but frequently I was capable of bringing two to life at the same time. Sometimes the third opportunity turned into a viable offer down the road. I learned to target my resume for the next step up and truly LOVE the job search. MORE Empowering Self-Talk Did you hear that folks? It is possible to LOVE the job search process! If you donât, it might help to try Mary Bethâs strategy of seeking three offers instead of one. This strategy was underlying the success story last week as well. Or, engage in more of the empowering self-talk and empowering actions outlined in the Job Search Success Survey Results. There are limitless resources available to you â" both your own internal resources and supportive external ones. Are you making the most of both of them? If you are, keep it up! And if not, consider that it might be time to start.

The Trial Gives Readers Reasons Why We Have The Bill Of...
The Trial gives readers reasons why we have the Bill of Rights and Constitutional Rights. This novel doesnââ¬â¢t abide by the 4th, 5th, and 6th amendments used when a citizen is arrested and after being arrested. It all begins with the first sentence, ââ¬Å"Someone must have traduced Joseph K., for without having done anything wrong he was arrested one fine morningâ⬠(Trial 3). These unidentified agents arrested him without a warrant, nor did they tell him why he was being arrested. That does not happen in the United States, because under the 4th amendment it states, ââ¬Å"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized (United states constitution, amendment IV). This amendment was written so w e the people of the United States have rights when accused of breaking the law, and do not get taken advantage by higher people than us citizens. The whole first chapter is an example of how we the citizens in the United States do not get arrested without a purpose. The whole arrest seemed so unreal that joseph even states, ââ¬Å"But that struck him as not being the right policy here, one could certainly regard the whole thing as a jokeâ⬠(Trail 7). Essay about Comparison of Maupassants Short Stories
Comparison of Maupassants Short Stories A Vendetta is a short story written by Guy de Maupassant pre 1914. It is set in Bonifacio, Corsica and is about Antoine Saverini who was savagely murdered and his mother who swore over his dead body that she would seek revenge. After an argument, Nicolas Ravolati murders Antoine Saverini by stabbing him in the back. When his mother sees her sons dead body for the first time, brought to her house by passers by, she sheds no tears however, she swears she will avenge him. The old woman knows that she is too old and weak to avenge his death herself. One night while Frisky the dog howled she was suddenly inspired. For three months she trained Frisky toâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦He crams A Vendetta full of descriptive writing giving the reader a better understanding of where the story is set and the characters that are in the story. The first two paragraphs only describe Bonifacio, where A Vendetta is set. Maupassant gives a very negative image to Bonifacio, describing its ramparts and its bristling reefs. It is a dangerous channel into which few ships venture. By using dramatic imagery he manages to give the impression that Bonifacio is a very dangerous and unwelcoming place. I like Maupassants use of similes especially They look like the nests of wild birds clinging to the rock looking down on this dangerous channel. This helps the reader to visualise the pebble dashed cottages literally clinging onto the mountainside. Throughout the story Maupassant uses imagery in a very dramatic way. Maupassant makes clever use of personification, The wind harasses the sea remorselessly giving the impression of a turbulent storm, it is as if the sea has got a life of its own. Maupassants use of the word harasses is very powerful and it conjures up an atmosphere of storms, thunder and lightning, again portraying that Bonifacio is a dangerous place. He describes Saverinis house as clinging to the very edge of the cliff once again using personification to describe Bonifacio. The two main characters in A Vendetta are the old woman and Frisky.Show MoreRelatedWilla Cathers Pauls Case and Maupassants The Necklace Essay1059 Words à |à 5 PagesWilla Cathers Pauls Case and Maupassants The Necklace When comparing two fictional characters from two different writers one must first and foremost analyze their dreams, ambitions, or goals in the story. Management Structures Free Essays
Efficient management structure that meets the needs of an organization is definitely a must in every company. Needless to say, there are various management structures, but each one of them does affect both daily and long term activities of a company. Departmentalization In general, departmentalization refers to grouping activities into separate departments that are coordinated by a specialist or a group of specialists depending on the size of an organization (Torbiorn, 2004). We will write a custom essay sample on Management Structures or any similar topic only for you Order Now Whether departmentalization is functions, product, customer, geigraphic, process, or a mixture of the stated above types, the affect on daily activities varies accordingly. As a result of departmentalization, the work process is built around certain products, services, or locations; the effeiciency of the production process also increases. To be more specific, the need for extensive external coordination reduces, since ability for the internal coordination within one unit increases, which means that daily company activities are more structured better organized around a certain factor, i.e. customer support department is built around the customer. Matrix Organizations In matrix management, workers in a company are grouped based on their skills, i.e. high-tech specialists work in the IT department (Shell, 2003). In this case, several projects can be assigned to a single department, which then leads to employees reporting to several project managers. Given workers are engaged in narrow activities and are grouped based on their specialization field, the depth of knowledge of employees increases. For instance, Java programmers, being involved solely in programming on this language, have their daily activities centered on this narrow activity, which then leads to narrow professional growth. The Project Team In the case of the project team, people are grouped together based on the common function, project they need to carry out (Shell, 2003) Given people are viewed as a one team, the performance is assessed based on mutual work, which then increases the ââ¬Å"team spiritâ⬠. The daily work of team members is more supportive especially in situations when, for instance, one of the the members of a group team failed to carry out a task assigned. The Collegial Model Under the collegial model, the deision making process consensual and involves representatives of all parties affected by the decision (Nicholl, 2006) This management structure is more of idealistic, as daily activities of an organization are centered around meaningful progress, which even though leads to a greater level of empowerment and increases the level of interest, is still less efficient. This includes situations when a decision must be taken that has a negative impact on one or more parties that still must be taken for the mutual benefit. As the daily decision making process is more complicated, time and efforts consuming. It should be noted, that all management structures have positive and negatives sides, whereas implementation of a definite structure is a matter of specific organizational needs of a given company. The company makes sure to serve its customers in the best possible manner with its wide variety of food items and by providing excellent cu stomer service (McDonalds.co.uk, n.d.). Role of Marketing in McDonalds McDonalds is undoubtedly contemplated as one of the best known brands across the world. At McDonalds, marketing is seen as determining the needs of customers and meeting them with an ease better than its competitors (Le Meunier-FitzHugh and Piercy, 2007). This helps company to build loyal customers. The company perceives that proper research is extremely important in creating the right kind of marketing activities with the main to win customer loyalty as well as to enhance sales. It aims to frame a prominent position in the minds of customers with the help of effective marketing (Fine, 2009). Marketing Contribution of McDonalds to ensure Effective Business Planning and Decision Making Marketing plays an extremely significant role in ensuring effective business planning as well as decision making. The type of marketing utilized by McDonalds depends upon the resources invested and the current marketing condition. For instance, the company makes use of television and other advertising support at the time of launch of a new product (Rodrigues, Nikhil and Jacob, 2016). Apart from this, it is true that marketing highly impacts business planning as a marketer makes sure to attain certain business objective while framing a marketing plan. Hence, effective marketing leads to great business planning and decisions. Also, various business decisions are affected by companys marketing strategy such as pricing decisions impact the marketing strategy of a company (Peterson, 2015). When a company decides a price of a product then it focuses on three aspects in which the first is how much amount people are willing to give, second is how much its competitors are offering. Thirdly, it is important to assure that the new prices are giving profits to company. In this regard, McDonalds focuses on all these aspects to ensure the contribution of effective marketing for sound business planning and decision making (Mourdoukoutas, 2013). Marketing at McDonalds A marketing strategy should be created in such a manner by which a major set of its objectives should be met with an ease. These objectives may include what a marketer wants to achieve and how well he is doing to attain these objectives. In this regard, the effective marketing strategies of company help it to achieve its objectives (Mourdoukoutas, 2013). McDonalds implements effective marketing strategies and its results are analyzed in a timely manner to check whether these objectives are met or not. This helps company to become flexible in its marketing activities so that changes can be done whenever required without any kind of major difficulty (Pomposo, 2014). Role and Value of Marketing within Different Functions of McDonalds There are basically five marketing functions that describe the value of marketing at McDonalds within different departments. They may include: Corporate marketing This includes global marketing domain to attract large number of customers and McDonalds targets its positioned customers by marketing its activities on the huge platform of television and internet. Strategic marketing McDonalds uses strategic marketing to meet its goals by ensuring three elements like providing quality food in a great ambiance, being a socially responsible company and making sure that all the investors get a great return for their investment (Strandvik, Holmlund and Gronroos, 2014). Product management With the help of product management, the company makes sure to bring something innovative in its products in a timely manner to attract a huge crowd with an ease. Product marketing Product marketing is done in McDonalds by using the effective product element of the 4 Ps of marketing mix. This is done to show its customers that they are given the best quality of products. Field marketing Numerous kinds of marketing campaign are implemented by McDonalds time to time to attract huge traffic. These campaigns are conducted in field as well as online as marketers give chance to its customers to ask for home delivery with great discounts (De Ruyter and Wetzels, 2000). Effectiveness of Marketing Work with Other Departments/Functions of the Organisation Marketing is one of the most important functions of an organization as it aware people regarding the products and services of a company. in this regard, some of the major departments of McDonalds that works well with marketing to attain its important objectives may include restaurant operations, quality assurance, human resources, media relations and customer satisfaction (Rodrigues, Nikhil and Jacob, 2016). The department of quality assurance is closely related with marketing as marketers claim in their marketing tactics that their company provides the best quality of food items. Apart from this, marketing works effectively with media relations and customer satisfaction to execute efficient marketing operations to attain customer satisfaction (Lamb, Hair and McDaniel, 2016). For international organisations, is marketing viewed differently within different strategic business units (SBUs) in different countries? It is so true that the culture of every country is quite different and McDonalds makes sure to adapt marketing activities as per the requirements of that particular country. In context to this, McDonalds has divided its operations into five geographical divisions namely; US, Europe, Asia, Latin America and Canada. They produce and serve different kinds of food items in different countries as McDonalds do not serve beef products in India as it may hurt the sentiments of Indians. Henceforth, it is noteworthy to state that marketing of McDonalds is viewed differently within different strategic business units in different countries and its geographical distribution is its SBU (Sheth and Sisodia, 2015). Role of Marketing Changed in the Organisation over Time Initially, the prime item of McDonalds was hamburger which was replaced by nine more menu items after three months of its store opening. Gradually, McDonalds got huge success in its business operations which led them to provide its franchisees in different countries. As a result, there were approximately 102 restaurants nationwide by the end of 1959. McDonalds aired its first TV commercial in the year 1966 with the introduction of the new face of the brand named Ronald McDonald (Sheth and Sisodia, 2015). This was a huge hit and the animated version of this man was used to attract children. In the year 1979, happy meal was invented to drive the attention of kids.
